Hello all. I would like to introduce ya’ll to Petunia. She is not my favorite heifer today. Let me give you the full story.
I turned 60 on the 27th of December. I was really going to make this a stellar birthday. I made reservations at the best hotel in downtown Fort Worth. I also made dinner reservations at the best steakhouse that is across the street. I was ready to show my fiancée the finer side of living. I was going to take him to a birthday party that I was throwing for myself. I was going to show him the true me. LOL.
The morning of the 27th my neighbor called me. I heard the voice on the other end say, “Girl, you got a cow that is visiting me over here.” Dang that sucks. I have just invested in about 10 acres of new fence line in the back and the neighbor has really good fencing between me and her. Where did she get out? I’ll be over in a bit. I hopped on the four wheeler and went to checking fences. I could not find and fences down. I looked at my small herd and counted the girls. One bull and 7 girls, two donkeys and two wild horses. Everybody is there. I called the neighbor back and told her everybody was on my side. I also told her about my birthday plans. She is a very sweet neighbor.
I was getting my outfit ready for the date night when I got a call from my neighbor again. Petunia was visiting again. Dang, I had already washed my waist length hair and given it the upside down blow dryer treatment. I hopped back on the four wheeler and went to get my cow. I got her on my property and closed the gates. I was planning on putting her in the corral and then locking her in a time out until the next morning. That way I could enjoy the evening. Petunia would not get in that corral for anything. I chased her I cussed her I spanked her butt. Nothing. I sat down on the steps of my tack shack and cried for a few hours.
Then I got a call from my fiancée. He did not know how it happened but he was lost. He had to ask for my address to put in the GPS. He was running late. We still had and hour and a half before check in time at the hotel. He called a second time and told me he hit a blown out tire on the highway and damaged his car. I told him be safe and get here when you can.
He showed up, Petunia was still not in the coral. I was still teary eyed. He went to get Petunia. I opened the gate to the corral and she pranced right on in. We both agreed that there was too much negativity around the planned outing. I called and canceled the reservations. We went to the local cafe and got a good old chicken fried.
The next morning we both got on the four wheeler and found the place where Petunia might have escaped. We repaired the fence together and enjoyed picking up some pecans along the way. I really showed that fiancée of mine a good time. He got to see the real me, nothing fancy, just an old lady loving life on her farm.
I think the fiancée is a keeper but I am not sure about Petunia. She may be my next chicken fried.
